The EMS

I don’t know all the ins and outs of the issues confronting the county and the EMS, but I do know that Perry Westmoreland runs a tight ship budget wise. I also know that we have a very good EMS. They are local and have a vested interest in maintaining a high quality service for the people of Scurry County. They are professional and courteous.

How many hundreds of people can attest to this. There are letters to the editor often about the wonderful aid rendered by the Scurry County EMS.

This service is one very important to the community and one which most people are willing to pay for.

Do we want this service out-sourced. I’m not clear how the hospital fits into an out-sourced EMS agreement but it sounds like there may be too much red tape involved for a quick response to an emergency.

I am sure there are good arguments on both side as to why an agreement can’t be reached.

But surely the county and Perry Westmoreland can get this one worked out for the good of the community.

I couldn't agree more. The EMS of the quality we now have is something our county can't do without. What better to spend our money on.
Perry Westmoreland is a really good guy.

When your life is 200% dependent on the on the response, knoeledge, and equipment of our ems servises, what is it worth? I've been around 14 years longer than I would have been because of them.

Has anyone in the County Government made an effort to see what is actually needed, required, and necessary? After that, let's see what it costs! SDN said the County was quoted as saying they were NOT going to bid this out. Why? Are we afraid of the results! Why has nothing been released regarding what is going on. Several hundred citizens are genuinely concerned, but don't know what direction this is headed. It would seem this needs to be a logical, common sense decision, based on business principles just like every other decision regarding County money. Find the best deal, and take it, keeping in mind the type of operation it is. We do NOT want to take a step back in time....our lives DO depend upon it.

I am also concered about this. I thought it said in the paper that the EMS contract was supposed to go out to bid. All those interested would then submit a specific proposal. It never did actually go through this process. Instead we have Gurdian in town, we have county officials talking to all sorts of people in and out of the hospital about running the EMS service but no-one has to submit any bids. It begins to look like a way to circumvent fair business practice.
